In perspective this rental is a charming, ultra clean unit which is part of a larger building. However, the accessibility of the unit is very misrepresented and other features are not as described. "First floor" would seem to indicated easy access to the unit. In truth it is a long 25 plus stone stairs DOWN followed by two full marble staircases UP before entering the unit (no rails on the final set up stairs. We are two quite active 60-70 year olds (with aging knees) and the challenge of suitcases etc. (we travel light) was not insignificant. Yes, this is a hill town and stairs should be expected but I scoured rental descriptions to get something reasonable in this regard and this missed the mark for me. (The owner lives in the unit below and was helpful with bags--parking is also a major challenge)--but he does not speak English and not the "official" agent.
In addition, we very much wanted WiFi access in the unit and this was not available as advertised (it is in some bars/cafes at the top of those stone stairs, but not the same as in the unit.) Also , there is no tub as advertised. Finally, those with problem backs beware, the bed in master bedroom is very soft.
The villa was everything we hoped for. We loved being right in the piazza. The neighbors were so friendly. Irene couldn't have been more helpful and we enjoyed getting to know her family when we had our cooking lesson at their house. What a wonderful night!! I would definitely recommend this villa to family and friends.
Dès le départ nous avons eu un accueil chaleureux de Guido , qui parle très bien français. De plus ce qu'ils nous a plu , ce fût la propreté des lieux et de la villa. Vraiment un endroit magique et paisible. Très bien situé à 15 minutes de Sienne. Ils ont su très bien combler nos attentes.
[English translation courtesy of Easy Reserve] From the beginning we had a warm welcome by Guido, who speaks very good French. Moreover what we liked the most was the cleanliness of the complex and of the property itself. Truly a magical and peaceful place, ideally located just 15 minutes from Siena. It met our expectations very well.
In addition to a very warm welcome we had the most amazing time while staying at Villa Il Castellaccio. A lovely hidden gem in the midst of Tuscany providing a lot of privacy, has an easy access to all nearby towns and offers picturesque views. The villa itself was very spacious, nicely decorated and clean which made our stay even more excellent!
Our family of seven, three generations were thrilled with our apartment, the scenery and the close proximity to areas of interest. We found the local town of Mercatale had everything that we needed to self-cater in our apartment and we enjoyed our shopping experience. Salvatore, Stefano and Anna were great...we would like to return to this wonderful place.
Although the farmhouse was very comfortable, I do not believe I would book it again for vacation. Our party arrived on Wednesday around 1:30 pm. The family downstairs was very gracious in allowing us to wait in the courtyard until someone came to let us in the farmhouse, approximately 30 minutes even after I had forwarded our arrival time. That was not too bad, but when we attempted to wash our dinner dishes later that day or take a shower we discovered NO HOT WATER. This was relayed immediately to the owner. He stated he would have it fixed the following day. Upon arrival again back to the farmhouse the next day w discovered we were still without HOT WATER. Again owner contacted and were assured it would be fixed. Friday morning after we COLD SHOWERED sgain we returned that evening to find at last we had HOT WATER. During our four day stay at this villa I was only able to receive ONE HOT SHOWER on Saturday morning, the day before we left. For this reason I would not return o this villa.
[Counter comment from the owners] The house has been thoroughly cleaned during the morning of arrival, after the departure of the other guests. Neither the previous guests, nor the cleaning lady told me about problems with the hot water. On September 25, at 9.06 am I received the email from the guests informing me about the failure of the boiler. I immediatly alerted the maintenance technician that arrived shortly after, he went to the property and found the malfunction of the boiler, presumably due to a supply of "dirty" gas , and he cleaned the nozzles. When he finished the job, the boiler worked fine. On September 25 at 21.55 pm I received the email in which the guests informed me that the hot water was lacking again. On 26 September in the morning, the technician went back to the property, completely cleaned the whole boiler and now it is functioning very well. I am sorry about what happened and I understand the disappointment of the guests, but certainly I acted immediatly to resolve the problem, so much so that I sent a technician 2 times in 24 hours; the problem of the "dirty" gas was caused by a third party, the supplier of the gas.
