Le Lagore is a beautiful villa located above Levanto on the Italian Riviera. It has gorgeous views from the terrace and the windows on the sea view side of the house. We greatly enjoyed our stay there. The kitchen was very well equipped, and it was much appreciated that dish and laundry soap were provided along with toilet paper and soap in the bathrooms. The house was decorated in a cozy comfortable way. Our group consisted of 4 adults traveling with 4 children ages 3-6 and we loved the spacious living room and terrace.
There are six bedrooms with comfortable beds and bathrooms. There is one bathtub and the rest of the bathrooms have a European styled hand shower on the wall of the bathroom- not a shower stall- such that when one showers, the water goes all over the toilet and bidet. This is not to say that this is a problem. The water drains adequately and is actually a good use of space because there would not have been room to install proper shower stalls in these bathrooms. I am mentioning this because my fellow Americans are less likely to expect/be familiar with this type of shower.
The description of the house listed it as 1 km from the beach. This is perhaps true if one were to take the extremely steep stairs, otherwise it would be a 15/20 minute steep winding walk on the road or a short drive with parking immediately above the beach.
The house feels very remote and there were lizards in the living room in the evening making funny sounds. There were lots of ants inside and out of the house. The grounds were not manicured and I had long grass/weeds scratching my legs when I would hang the laundry on the line to dry. The washing machine did not function properly. With every load, we had to continually readjust the clothes in the washing machine throughout the cycle.
However, the pleasures of cooking in that great house with rosemary picked outside the kitchen door, the joys of drinks made with freshly crushed mint plucked from behind the hammock, and enjoying this food and drink on the terrace with the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea stretching across the horizon made up for ants and other minor inconveniences. If you can welcome nature into your life, you will enjoy your stay at Le Lagore and will leave wishing, as we did, that you could stay on for at least a little while longer.
Our familiy of 6 adults and 2 children (ages 9 months and 2 1/2 years) was delighted with our stay at Villa Fiorenzani. We were looking for a villa within walking distance to a small town with restaurants and Villa Fiorenzani and Radicondoli fit the bill perfectly. I echo the reviews below regarding location and things to do. The Radicondoli tourism office was very helpful with maps and suggestions of things to do, as well.
A highlight for us was a dinner at the agroturismo Paugnano. Our granddaughter was in awe of the sheep and milking, the family was warm and embracing, and the ravioli was spectacular! A cooking class there would have been fun, had we realized in time. Also, don't miss the pizza at La Pergola - best we had our entire trip!
We can also recommend a hot air balloon flight through Associazioni Aerostatica Toscana (www.flyballoon.it) which was very professionally done and a wonderful way to see the Tuscan countryside, although expensive.
One note: Don't count on wireless at the villa - it was only available one day while we were there despite property manager Ilaria's attempts to get it working. (An electrical storm blew it out the same day she got it to work.)
Torre del Cielo. What can we say? Italy's very best landlord for a start. The most delightful, helpful, warm, friendly person you would ever hope to meet. That's Rosado, owner of Torre del Cielo. NOTHING is too much trouble. The villa (which we shared with eight friends) is clean, well equipped and with the most delightful outdoor areas you could ever want including a lovely pool set in landscaped gardens and a gazebo, plus an outdoor area where ten people can eat comfortably among Rosado's prized roses. Bliss.
The property as well as the setting and equippment were very good. Far away from the city noise and very close to nature. The only issue was the owner who did not even come to say hello when we arrived and when after 4 days we spoke to him about the vine tour, he indeed organized it, but instead of doing it himsel ( just as he promised) he sent his employee who barely spoke English. Istead, I recomment talking Antonietta- she works there but also has her own vineyard! Overall, very goog place to spend holiday!
Fabulous villa. Very clean, comfy beds, good bathroom and facilities. The most wonderful views from every room and the Terrace.We would highly recommend this villa.
The ambiance was great, we felt like at home. The owner, Maria Grazia was very kind and helpful, her mother as well. The panorama is beautiful from the rooms. The estate is next to the traditional road SR 222 and lots of cyclists pass by. It is very good starting point to different towns in Chianti region, even Siena and Firenze. Overall, during our stay we felt the atmosphere described in the book “Under the Tuscan sun”!
La Capinera exceeded our expectations as the villa for our week-long Tuscan holiday.
Perfect for a small family, salt water pool is absolutely fantastic.
Local town friendly and easily accessible.
The Bowlings, Ottawa, Canada
As a group of ten, we stayed in three apartments at Torre A Cona, and used the fabulous kitchen at Giardino as our main area for congregation. We didn't have a single car, but took the bus to Incisa to shop at the Coop, and bought wine from the estate. Marianna and Livia at reception were wonderful. They opened the path that leads to San Donato so that we didn't have to walk on the road to get to the bus for Florence, and helped in many other ways. The property has stunning views, and the apartments are lovely.
We spent five weeks at Casa Lucia from end of May to end of June 2011 and loved every moment of it. The villa is fitted with everything you need, the large pool is great and the view over the valley is stunning, the location very quiet but central, from where we explored to fantastic Chianti region everyday. To come back to this tranquil place after a busy day exploring was always a highlight. Nearby Tavarnelle is a charmning town with all the ameneties you need.
Villa Carol is ideally situated on a hill full of vineyards and cedars and olive trees. From the garden, one has a breathtaking view of the lush Tuscan hills and of the town of Poggibonsi, which is a mere 2 km away from the property. We had a rented car (highly recommended) and we explored Sienna, Florence and the bucolic town of San Gimignano. Villa Carol is situated at a short distance, in the middle of a triangle between these cities and town.
On arrival we were greeted by our hosts, Lucia, Gabriele and their 5 year old daughter Caroline. They are delightful people, very respectful of our privacy and our needs and they were very ready to be of assistance. Our hosts’ English is somewhat limited, but they are eager to please and we managed everything without a problem. Lucia is an excellent cook and one day we asked her to cook a special “Tuscan” dinner for us. Despite our various allergies and dietary restrictions, she managed to create a fabulous feast. I strongly recommend that you try her cooking. It is better than that of many highly rated restaurants. I am a curious type and I initiated chats with Gabriele. He painted many of the paintings found in the villa and he has many interesting stories. He will not disturb you, if you wish to be left alone.
The propriety was quiet and the silence was intermittently interrupted by sound of birds singing and doves doing the ritual, spring mating dance. The infinity pool was inviting, although the weather was a bit cool. The rooms were extremely comfortable and each room has its own bathroom. We were four, but the villa can easily accommodate 6-8 people. Our hosts live on the upper floor and they were very discrete - their presence was hardly noticeable. We had a separate entrance gate for the villa and the layout make it such that we had total privacy.
Shopping for food was easy. A mere 1.5 km away, there is a superstore called PAM and in it one can find everything than one needs. Even the most choosy palates would find fresh produce, pasta, bread, cold cuts, great cheeses, meat products, and DOA (nationally rated) wines, etc
The only downside to this little paradise is the fact that the entrance alley from the front electric gate is at a sharp angle and I managed to scratch my rented car’s door the first time. You need to take a wide angle entry.
One piece of advice: take a GPS because navigating the road signs and the round points can be challenging.
Final comment: All four of us loved our stay at Villa Carol, have fond memories of our hosts and we would be ready to back there in a heartbeat!
